Kids can choose from fun Halloween-themed boxes or submit their own designs for a chance to be featured next year

NEW YORK (August 21, 2024) – This Halloween season, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is back with a twist for its 72nd year. In addition to raising funds for UNICEF’s critical work around the world, kids now can carry brand-new, Halloween-inspired collection boxes featuring six different designs. And for the first time ever, participants can showcase their creativity by entering the "Create-a-Character" contest, with winning designs to be featured on next year’s boxes.

The new 2024 collection box designs offer something for everyone, with characters like a friendly monster, a playful black cat, a regal princess, and more. Kids can choose the box that best fits their Halloween spirit as they collect donations door-to-door.

“Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has always been about empowering kids to help others, and this year, we’re excited to add an extra element of fun and creativity,” said Michael J. Nyenhuis, CEO and president of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. “With new collection box designs and the launch of our Create-a-Character contest, kids have more ways than ever to get involved and make a difference.”

The Create-a-Character contest, running from September 1 through October 26, 2024, invites participants to design their own collection box characters. The contest is divided into three categories: grades K-3, grades 4-6, and ages 13 and up. One winning design from each group will be announced on Halloween and will be featured on next year’s Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF collection boxes.
